I was fortunate enough to learn the Abuse Hold from Access Consciousness Founder, Gary Douglas himself – the first time he taught it at a class in Copenhagen.
So, let’s start at the beginning. What is abuse? Well, for most of it it immediately conjures up images of physical or sexual violence.
And of course it is that. And it is way, way more. It includes verbal abuse (being told off, being criticised, being shouted at, not being praised) and it also includes something I had never even heard of – financial abuse (where we are habitually told there isn’t the money for things, we’re constantly struggling, and we take in the message that we’re not worthy of good things – and then that’s how we treat ourselves.)
Which brings me to the next part of abuse – that which we give to ourselves. We are often our own worst enemies – that constant, judgemental voice inside our heads, that certainty we don’t deserve more, that telling ourselves that we don’t amount too much and never will…………….
And the abuse hold can allow us to release all of this……………………….with ease, and way more quickly and completely than anything else I have ever encountered before.
And how does it work?
Well, it’s a two part process.
Firstly, you need to listen to an MP3 download of an Access Consciousness class about the issues of abuse. Listening to this will unlock what Gary Douglas calls the psychological points of view that you created as a result of being abused.
It’s recommended that you listen to these MP3s twenty to thirty times if you have been physically or sexually abused, and otherwise ten to twenty times. It’s possible to play these MP3s at low volume overnight as well as listening to them when you’re awake.
Releasing the psychological points of view means that your body is prepared to release the physical abuse that is locked into your body when you receive the hold.
And the hold itself is quite simply being held with an energy of love and allowance that invites the body to release where it has locked in the abuse.
And how does this look in practice?
The best way to describe this is to talk about the two abuse hold sessions I gave a couple of weeks ago.
The first one was with a lovely woman in her early fifties who had been sexually abused as a young teenager.
The release in the session came in waves. Times of moving the body, shaking the body to release, and times of crying and sobbing. And then times of peace and quiet.
And at the end uncontrollable laughter. Which actually infected me too.
The second one was with a young man who had been verbally abused, and hit as a child.
This session was much quieter. There were short periods of catharsis or release – and mainly this lovely man was just allowing his body to receive nurturing, loving energy that it had maybe never been able to let in before. There was a deep peace and relaxation at the end of the session.
That was my experience of their sessions – and here’s briefly what they say in their own words:
“Thank you Fiona I cannot begin to put into words how amazing I feel after receiving the abuse hold!!!! The session has released pain and tension in my body I had put down to arthritis and my age. It has also resolved my insomnia I have had since childhood and I am now in my fifties!!!
I now feel like I have a new lease of life I feel fitter happier more at peace and I have more energy and vitality hurray!!!! And as I’m sure you would say lovely Fiona how does it get any better than this???!!!xxx” Therapist, North of England
“Ever since I’d heard about the Access Abuse Hold technique my body had been saying ‘Gimme that!’ and I am so grateful that you have trained in this incredibly nurturing, healing and body freeing process.
In the session I was surprised that my usual stressful ‘Come on body, heal now, lets get this done quick!’ approach melted away very early on and was replaced with a huge, gentle and kind space of allowance and receiving. To be held in such a space is glorious and the body tension and rigidity that I’ve struggled with for many years eased as the process enabled me to stop fighting my body and myself.
Your kind and judgement free presence was there throughout and I was amazed at how gently and freely past traumas unlocked in my body. Thank you so much Fiona.
Since the session I’m much more present in my body and there is much more ease and space. I’ve also become more aware of how I treat myself and am choosing to be kinder. Oh and I’m excited about the future again! What else is possible now?! Thank you!” Facilitator, North of England
Is this interesting to you? Would you like some of that ease?
