I’ve battled with fear a lot of my life. Fear of all kinds of things – fear of failure, fear of success, fear of speaking in public, fear of not being good enough, fear of being without money, fear of getting older…..etc etc
For many years, I have had the book “Feel the Fear and do it anyway” on my bookshelves.
Actually, my lovely friend Yang May Ooi gave me the book when we were both at turning points in our lives, along with the inscription: “last one to give up her job is a wimp!”
Well, we both gave up our jobs very soon after that (technically, she was the first – and I wasn’t very long after her!) – and embarked on lives that took us in far from conventional directions!!!
So, now, many years later, I find Access Consciousness has amazing tools for helping us to move through fear, release fear, see fear for what it really is…..and above all, get on with doing what we would like to be doing in our lives, rather than remaining immobilised as a victim of fear!
The first thing that Access Consciousness suggests doing when you feel fearful is asking a very simple question “Is this fear mine?” We often pick up on the thoughts, feelings and emotions of the people around us – and, as we know, there’s lots of fear out there in people’s worlds around all kinds of things.
So, it’s very possible that if you’re feeling fearful, you may be actually feeling someone else’s fear!
And the tool to release the fear that isn’t yours is so simple “Please go back to sender with consciousness attached.” Just saying these words can often bring a lot of relief very quickly.
The second thing is to see fear as what it really is – something that is here to distract us from getting on with our lives. If we feel fearful, we often don’t do what we would love to be doing.
Just having this awareness can really change things – we can check in and see what we would really like to choose – the fear, or getting on with living our lives the way we would love to be living them!
The final thing that it’s good to check in with is whether what you’re actually experiencing in your body is actually fear or excitement. Often when we’re stepping up to do new things, we expect to be fearful – because that is often what we’re taught will happen. What if those feelings and sensations in your body are actually excitement? Excitement that you’re stepping into new things and new directions and possibilities.
This one little awareness has changed so much for me – it’s enabled me to stop the contraction that what we think is fear can bring, and continue to grow and expand and choose new things…………
These tools are really in my mind at the moment as I am facilitating several Right Voice for You classes over the next few weeks – and speaking and the voice is something that brings up a lot of fear for people!
So, if you’d like to feel less fearful, try these tools and see how you get on. And if you want to know more about these and other powerful tools for being heard in the world with ease, check out the upcoming Right Voice for You schedule .
