When I was first ill, I read a lot about nutrition, and became convinced that if I could just get the “right” diet, I would be able to cure myself. And so a lot of the vast amount of literature on disease, health and diet would have you believe!
I had been vegetarian for many years by the time I got ill, and during the time I was ill, I refined my diet more and more. I gradually gave up sugar, wheat and dairy (which in fact I already rarely ate except in milk chocolate!), and included quite a few supplements or healthy foods.
As well as the “ordinary” problems and discomforts of being ill with chronic fatigue, I then also had to contest with the detoxification symptoms – difficult emotions coming up, combined sometimes with nausea.
It is my experience that “cleaning up” your diet and adding in superfoods works best when you are also working on yourself emotionally – in my case through Energy Healing and the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT.) The healing, EFT and also my Chi Kung practice gave me ways of dealing with the difficult emotions that came up in changing my diet. Conversely, “clearing” the difficult emotions through the EFT and healing made it more likely that I would be able to “stick” with the diet.
In the last twelve months, I have refined my diet even more, and am now pretty much 100% raw food vegan. That is, I eat raw fruit, vegetables, greens, nuts and seeds. On this diet, I feel more alive and have more vitality than I can remember ever having had in my life before.
Whilst this may seem quite “drastic” to people eating a more “normal” western diet, I remain convinced that it is just common sense that what we put into our bodies three or more times a day is going to have a huge impact on our health and wellbeing. To me it just makes sense that the purer that food, and the less processed it is, the more life force the body will be able to extract from it. And the more energetic we will be!
I realise of course that for most people, becoming raw food vegan is a step (or several steps!) too far! But I think we can all improve our energy and vitality by making a few sensible choices – making sure we drink enough pure water to remain hydrated, including ample portions of fresh fruit and vegetables, and cutting back on dairy and sugar.

Hi,
I just wanted to say how awesome it is to hear of your reletively new raw vegan lifestyle! My husband and I went 100% raw vegan on 2nd January and so far so good. I’ve spent hours/days researching the raw way of life and am a fan of the Life Regenerator on YouTube as well as Matt Monarch and Angela Stokes Monarch and these daily snippets keep me feeling supported in our new way of life. Who knows whether we’ll remain 100% raw but we already feel better and it’s only day 6!
I’d be lovely to meet up with other raw foodies in Yorkshire, we’re in Skipton and I heard that there are others in Hebden Bridge, is that true?
Love and light,
Bonnie x
Hi Bonnie
Thanks so much for your comments. It’s great to read of you and your husband becoming raw vegan – and living so close. Yes, there’s a newish raw food group in Hebden bridge, which is fantastic. We keep in touch mainly on Facebook – there’s a group called Hebden Bridge Raw Food Group which you can join. If you’re not on FB, then let me know and I can let you know about next events etc
with love to you Fiona
